Description
A French Louis XVI period giltwood mirror from the late 18th century with carved hearts on fire symbols, laurel wreath and bouquet. This exquisite French Louis XVI period giltwood mirror, dating back to the late 18th century, is adorned with symbols of ardor and unity, making it a piece steeped in history and romance. Featuring a meticulously carved double hearts on fire symbol at its crest, flanked by a laurel wreath and sumptuous bouquets, this mirror likely served as a treasured wedding gift, symbolizing everlasting love.
The frame is elaborately decorated with rais-de-cœur, cross-hatched motifs, and a classic bead and reel design, encapsulating the elegance of the Louis XVI period. A cascading foliage garland, originating from an oval medallion surrounding the emblematic hearts on fire, gracefully adorns the upper sides of the mirror, showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship and attention to detail that characterize this era.
Bearing some patina which adds to its antique charm, this mirror remains a magnificent decorative piece that can enhance any contemporary or traditional home setting. It could serve as a focal point in a living room, entryway, or above a fireplace, infusing the space with a sense of history, artistry, and the enduring nature of love. Its rich motifs and symbolic carvings make it not just a mirror, but a piece of art that tells a story of love and dedication, offering a touch of classical sophistication to any interior design. -
