Description
Pierre Paulin F557 Swivel Mid Century Lounge Chairs 1st eddition. The Pierre Paulin Model F557, famously known as the "Oyster Chair" (First Edition), is a seminal piece of Mid-Century Modern and Space Age seating design manufactured by Artifort. Designed in 1961, the F557 is highly collectible due to its limited production window running only until 1965, making original first-edition trumpet-base variants particularly rare. Pierre Paulin Swivel chairs F557 1st edition in original condition, all original fabric. The Authentic F557 Base: The first-edition Models F557 (1961–1965) were manufactured exclusively with a heavy molded plastic/fiberglass-reinforced polyester trumpet base. Not Alumimun. It featured a distinctive raised Artifort logo cast directly into the underside mold, see pictured.
This is an exceptional pair of 1st edition model F557 chairs, both in good original condition, a colletors dream. The chairs are in good usable condition. The fabric has been steamed cleaned. Some light signs of wear, no stains or tears. The cushioning or foam has some shaped memory (referred to as foam -set) from previous use. Swivel bases are in good condition working flawlessly. The chairs are very comfortable and can be used as is. Keeping the chairs original will protect and maintain the value, however all new upholstery is recommended for optimum look and comfort. We can also have the chairs professionally re-upholstered in a fabric of your choosing for an additional cost.
This model F557 is said to be the first or early edition of the Oyster Chair making these early models produced 1961 to 1965 somewhat rare. -
