Description
This 1930s Art Deco armchair is a striking blend of timeless elegance and bold, modern design, making it a perfect embodiment of the heyday of Art Deco. The movement represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress. Spreading across Europe and the United States in the 1930s, Art Deco featured rare, expensive, innovative materials and exquisite craftsmanship.
The sleek silhouette of this armchair is defined by curved armrests that flow seamlessly into sled feet, creating a sculptural frame reminiscent of the period’s iconic shapes by combining curves and angles for a quintessential Art Deco look. The dark wood pairs beautifully with the upholstery, evoking the sophistication and glamour needed for the post-war design rebirth. The fabric paired with the rich tone of the wood add a touch of warmth and opulence. This armchair features a plush, cushioned design that not only invites relaxation but also exudes style, seamlessly blending comfort with the core principles of the Art Deco movement. In addition to the chair’s functional side, the meticulous tailoring also highlights the expert craftsmanship of early 20th century European design. The sled feet maximize stability, while also offering a grounded feel to the piece, once again prioritising beauty while making skilled structural choices.
This chair is both a furniture piece, as well as a statement of Art Deco’s timelessness. Channeling the appeal of a jazz-filled salon, this armchair offers a perfect mix of functionality and artistry, making it an ideal addition for those who appreciate both history and flawless design.
