Description
Viennese Orientalist cold-painted bronze figurative lamp
Austrian, c. 1910
Height 36cm, width 13cm, depth 16cm
This fine bronze lamp is crafted in the Viennese Orientalist manner that prevailed during the early twentieth century. The lamp is crafted from cold-painted bronze, an intricate technique that produces vibrant colours. The lamp is modelled as a figure seated atop a rug and beneath a lamp. The figure holds a bowl and a statue, and his walking staff is propped beside him. The modelling throughout is superb, as is the painted finish. The lamp is marked underside ‘BK’ and ‘Austria’. -
