Description
This exceptional set of eight dining chairs was designed by Paolo Buffa and made in Italy from the late 1940s. They are accompanied by a certificate from the Paolo Buffa Archive in Cantù.
The solid mahogany frames have a ladder back of three shaped crossbars, and the top rail sweeps gently upward at both ends. The front legs taper to a refined terminal, and the back legs curve softly outward. The warm wood shows a lively play of light and dark tones, and the mottled pattern is different on every chair, so each one has its own character. The slender frames keep the chairs light and easy to move. The elegant sculpted crossbars, slender legs and fine proportions reflect Buffa’s refined approach and the skill of the cabinetmakers who produced his designs.
The chairs are fully restored and the seats have been reupholstered in a new oatmeal chenille. Its soft, flecked texture and light tone form a beautiful contrast with the warm mahogany frames. -
