Description
American artist Anne Russinof (1956–2025) was an abstract painter based in Brooklyn, New York. A longtime member of American Abstract Artists with degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA) and Pratt Institute (MFA), her work was deeply rooted in the traditions of Abstract Expressionism. Driven by the interplay of color, space, and light, Russinof translated visual stimuli from her environment into visceral, emotional compositions rather than literal depictions.
Working primarily in oil, she was recognized for her swift, wet-on-wet technique. She applied thick, lyrical marks that swept across the canvas to coalesce organically into loose, grid-like frameworks. Guided by an intuitive sense of restraint, Russinof carefully balanced color and physical movement, knowing precisely when to halt the brush to capture vibrant energy just before the point of chaos. -
