Description
American artist Jean Feinberg is celebrated for her nuanced explorations of color and spatial relationships, often characterized in her recent practice by precise geometric intersections and the use of salvaged wood. However, looking back at her practice from the late 1980s reveals a vastly different, highly expressive, and organic approach to abstract painting.
This historic 1988 artwork highlights this pivotal era in Feinberg's evolution. Trading sharp geometry for fluid, biomorphic forms, the composition features a cluster of bold, petal-like shapes suspended against a deeply textured ground of warm earth tones. The inclusion of a sweeping, dark linear form and raw, energetic brushstrokes emphasizes a sense of intuitive movement. -
